Sonya Kraan is a Melbourne based designer that focusses on creating beautifully crafted women's wear tailoring with hidden functionality and transformability. Garments that can change to meet the needs of the wearer, this may be as simple as removable sleeves or layers for acclimatization or as complex as garments which can be reconfigured entirely. This consideration of design is relative to the labels approach to sustainability. Sonya believes that if we inject more 'options' into a garment and create something less static, we will increase its use.
Sonya Kraan graduated from RMIT University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Design (Fashion) Honours First Class. Following this, Sonya presented her collection as part of L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Student showcase 'Metamorphosis' in 2009. During that year Sonya was involved in national design competitions including the Chambord Shine Awards where she was commended by her peers as an innovative and avant-garde designer.
